Alpine* Microbial Observatory

* and Arctic and Antarctic

Our research spans the globe from our own backyard to the ends of the Earth.  We investigate microbial life in alpine and polar ecosystems.  The lab has conducted field work on six continents, five major mountain ranges, and both poles.  Since its founding 15 years ago, researchers at the AMO have studied microbial life to address questions in a variety of fields: biogeography, biogeochemistry, community ecology, microbe-plant interactions, and Astrobiology.
